Agents For Everyone?!
The TLDR
OpenAI launches a comprehensive agent-building platform combining a new Responses API and Agents SDK. The system allows developers to create autonomous AI systems that can search, use files, and control computers with minimal coding requirements.
OpenAI today announced a new set of tools that enable developers and organizations to create powerful AI agents. These agents are capable of autonomously performing complex tasks for the user.
At the heart of this is the new Responses API, which combines the simplicity of the Chat Completions API with the tooling capabilities of the Assistants API. It enables developers to create agents with just a few lines of code that can access integrated tools such as web search, file search and computer usage.
In addition, a new Agents SDK has been introduced to simplify the orchestration of single and multi-agent workflows. It offers configurable security checks as well as tools for visualizing and optimizing agent execution.
According to OpenAI, the platform is designed to create a foundation on which developers can build reliable and powerful autonomous systems that have a real impact. In the coming weeks and months, OpenAI plans to release additional tools and features to further simplify the development of agent-based applications.
As CPO Kevin Weil said during the annoucement: 2025 will go down in history as the year of agents!
