GPT-4.5: A New King For The Throne?

The TLDR
OpenAI has launched GPT-4.5, featuring significantly faster processing and fewer factual errors. The model shows improved emotional understanding and writing skills. Users will experience more responsive and natural AI conversations immediately.

After a long wait, OpenAI yesterday presented GPT-4.5 – the last model without a dedicated “reasoning” capability, before GPT-5 is expected to combine both approaches in a few months. GPT-5 is expected to use a routing system that differentiates between the reasoning-capable model o3 and a non-reasoner for creative tasks, for example, depending on the request.

Nevertheless, GPT-4.5 brings significant improvements. Particularly noteworthy is the increased computational efficiency: the model requires only a fraction of the resources of GPT-4, which makes answers faster and more cost-efficient. At the same time, the tendency to “hallucinate”, i.e. to produce erroneous or invented information, has been further reduced.

Social intelligence has also been improved. GPT-4.5 is said to grasp emotions more precisely and react more naturally. In addition, its writing skills and world knowledge have been expanded, enabling the model to formulate sophisticated texts more coherently and stylistically precisely. Its refined “personality” ensures more engaging interactions.

Why OpenAI is releasing this model so close on the heels of GPT-5 remains speculation. It is possible that the company wants to prevent users from switching to the competition. Regardless, GPT-4.5 marks an important intermediate step and increases anticipation for the upcoming Frontier model.
